Nike Air Max is a line of shoes first released by Nike, Inc. in 1987. It is worn by the likes of famous superstars such as Eminem, Charles Barkley, LeBron James and Tupac Shakur. The shoe was originally designed by Tinker Hatfield, who started out working for Nike as an architect designing shops; he also designed many of the Air Jordan models. The Nike air technology was created and patented by employee M. Frank Rudy.To celebrate this year's Air Max Day (yes, it exists; no, we don't know how), Nike are today releasing the Air Max Zero. Based on the drawings for the 1980s prototype of the first Air Max shoe by lauded trainer designer Tinker Hatfield, the Air Max Zero is already being dubbed as 'The 1 Before the 1'. Back when Nike released the Nike Air Max 1 in 1987, they could have hardly believed that the trainer would have its own international day 28 years later.Inspired by the post-modern, innards-on-show architecture of Paris' Pompidou Centre, the Air Max 1 streaked ahead of its competition by boldly putting the air bubble of its midsole on display for all to see.1991 - Nike Air Classic BW. Originally conceived as a thoroughbred running shoe, 91's Air Max offering is now considered a 'lifestyle' classic (although not all nightclub bouncers know as much). 1995 - Nike Air Max 95. To trainer afficionados, this one represents Nike at the peak of its Air Max powers. The bubble has started sneaking forward to the forefoot, the chassis is aggressive yes simple, and the finishing is so confident that the iconic Nike tick is consigned to a minor role close to the heel.Nonetheless, Nike Air Max 95 will probably be remembered thanks to its lawbreaking credentials. A study in 1997 found that criminals who left footprints at the scene of a crime were most likely to be wearing these little outlaws.
